Free range pork
Our free range pig herd consists of mixed breed sows (including Tamworth, Saddleback, Gloucester Old Spot and Berkshire) and a Large White boar who enjoy a lifestyle which enables them to graze on pasture, soak up the sun or feel the mist on their backs and participate in all natural behaviours, as you can see from the photos below. As well as their daily ration of unmedicated pellets and cows milk, our free range pigs are able to roam freely and enjoy the pasture in their paddock, forage in the bush, wallow or sleep, as the time of day or evening dictates. Each of their paddocks contains areas of native trees which act as wind breaks and provide shelter and shade. In addition, all ages of livestock are provided with movable hutches to protect them from climatic extremes, sun, wind and predators.
Our free range, outdoor bred and outdoor raised pigs are rotated from paddock to paddock on a six monthly basis and the nutrients from both urine and manure are spread throughout the paddock by the pigs. As each paddock is vacated, the area which has been ploughed by the pigs will then grow pastures or crops which will be harvested to feed all of our livestock.
To protect our pig herd, our perimeter fences are constructed of pig mesh with an electric wire to prevent entry by wild pigs or attacks from wild dogs.
